Our reunion is creeping closer and we are pleased to report that everything is in place for an enjoyable and reflective weekend. Please remember all final payments are due by 31st March 2017. We hope as many 39 Aden Vets as possible will join us, we are pleased to say that more of our fellow veterans who have not attended previous reunions have been identified and contacted who have indicated they will join us.  

If anyone’s (other than those that have already informed me) room requirement has changed please let me know as I will be finalising our room requirement in the first two weeks of April.

We sincerely hope that those of you who are undecided or not yet committed to attend will decide to join your colleagues for our 50-year landmark reunion. Our numbers get smaller year by year so let’s make this event one to remember! 

Due to the special nature of this occasion our 50th anniversary, the format of the weekend will be as per previous 39 Reunion Weekends. However, our visit for the memorial service at the National Memorial Arboretum will be slightly more formal than previous years.

 Here’s an outline of what is planned.

Friday 26th May 2017 

Arrive at Jury Inn Hinckley Island Hotel meet and greet and check-in from 14:00

18.00 welcome drinks

19:00 Informal buffet dinner.  A time to meet with old friend and buddies, with the option to move to the bar to continue our catch-up conversations. 

Saturday 27th May 2017

Breakfast 07.30 till 10.00

Arboretum Visit:  Dress code:  smart casual/jackets

Please wear your berets and medals if you have them.

Make our way to the Arboretum to arrive by 11:15am (transport to be provided for those without vehicles or mobility issues).  

On arrival gather at the Chapel for a short memorial service led by a Corp’s Padre, a senior Corp’s representative will also be in attendance, Major General Mungo Melvin who was OC 39 Sqn during the Gulf war and instrumental in organising the Sqn’s 25th anniversary in Osnabruck, he will be joined by our honoured guests Rocky and Jeff’s next of kin. 

Following the service, we (those that are able) will form up outside the chapel, we will then march/amble /creak to the Royal Engineers Memorial ground (possibly to the sound of a Corps Piper and following the Corp standard). We will meet up with the padre, for a wreath laying ceremony for our fallen comrades.  After the laying of the wreath, the last post will be played by a Corps trumpeter. 

Following the service refreshments will be served in the Founders room. The remainder of the afternoon will be at your own leisure. Transport for those requiring it will be provided back to the hotel. 

Saturday Evening 

Gather at 19:00 for 19:30 for photographs followed by the;

Gala Dinner: collar & tie/ lounge suits/ black tie optional – posh frocks / glad rags with a view to dancing and partying the night away. 

After dinner disco/bar area chit chat over sandbags
