Our Environment

At the Beverley Bed & Breakfast we are interested in the Environment and we are actively trying to lessen our impact on the Environment and promote Sustainability.

The waste water from the Bed & Breakfast, either in the Rooms or in the House, is processed in our double action septic system and is pumped to a settling drain in the garden. From here the plants and trees in the Guest Garden are reticulated.

Rain water is collected from the house and garage roofs and is stored in two 4000 litre tanks. This water is used for various purposes around the Bed & Breakfast such as refilling the fish ponds and reticulation. However, it is not suitable for drinking, but cold filtered Mains water is available at Reception.

The heating in our house in winter and some of our cooking facilities are provided by a wood stove in our kitchen. Wood for this stove is collected in the local area from trees and branches that have fallen to the ground, we do not use purpose felled trees. We cut and split all the wood used in our own facility at the rear of the property. This lowers our dependence on gas and electricity and is a renewable resource but, unfortunately, it is not feasible to extend this form of heating to the Guest Rooms.

We have installed a 3KW Solar Power system on the roof of the B & B to offset the power usage in both the house and the rooms and we have progressively changed to LED lighting throughout as these devices are very low power consumption. All the Veranda, Car Park and Sign lighting is provided by LED's and are computer controlled for switching on and off according to the time of Sunset, Sunrise and room usage. The Dining Room is also lit by LED's as are the kitchen, laundry and office.

The hot water heater in each room is controlled by a computer system that turns on the heater only when that room is booked. This saves on using unnecessary energy to heat the water when the room is not occupied. However, if you have not booked your room in advance, the heater is turned on when you arrive so please give it at least 20 minutes to heat up. As this specialised computer system was written and developed by the owners of the Beverley B & B, it can sometimes become temperamental as we iron out the last few bugs. So if you do not have any hot water, please contact Reception to have the system reset. After the lights go out at night at 11 pm, there are low level energy efficient LED's to illuminate the Veranda and walkways  for your safety. These LED's are only turned on where needed. As a security measure the Car Park LED Floodlights are on all night should any room be booked.

Most waste food in the Bed & Breakfast is fed to our Chickens and Ducks (but they don't like onions!). To help us, could you separate any waste foodstuffs in your rubbish and we would be happy to supply separate bags if required. We do have a yellow topped recycling wheelie bin so it would help if you separated bottles and cans from the general rubbish (red topped wheelie bin) as these are recycled separately through WA Containers for Change.

If your children wish to feed the Chickens and Ducks, please ask as we can escort them to the Chicken Run.

Please turn off all Lighting, Air Conditioners and Electric Blankets when not required to conserve energy.
